These unique 4" x 6" aluminum prints feature the Devil's Den witness tree in autumn, and each print is paired with a stand handcrafted from wood that was pruned from the tree shown in the picture.

The metal print is affixed to the stand via a slotted pewter mounting bracket, and a suede-microfiber cloth is included for easy care and cleaning. (Please note - the coffee mug is shown for scale and it is not included.)

This iconic tree is called a 'witness tree' because it is thought to have been standing at the time of the battle, a living witness to that pivotal event in American history. The wood was given to me several years ago by my friends Donna and her husband Wayne Elliott, a professional arborist from Ontario. Each branch was removed with careful consideration - and Park Service approval - and because the wood is so rare and special, I only use it sparingly.

The stands are each unique, varying slightly in size and shape. The bark has been removed with a wire-wheel and a varnished natural edge remains. A signed and numbered certificate of authenticity is included with each set. A closer look at the image itself is below.

The first, pictured above, is a collectible metal proof print featuring two of Gettysburg historic 'witness trees'. On one side is the Devil's Den witness tree and on the other is the witness tree located at the base of Culp's Hill. This unique 8" round aluminum print includes a pedestal made from lead-free pewter and wood that was (legally) harvested from the witness tree at Devil's Den. It also includes a signed certificate of authenticity and a suede-microfiber cloth for easy cleaning.

We only made a single double-sided test print because they cost twice as much to produce, and consistently aligning both images perfectly was problematic for our lab. So there's only one like it, and we're offering this solitary print and stand on a first come, first served basis, for a price of $299 (plus tax & shipping).

"The Witness Tree at Devil's Den" on Witness Wood Stand6" x 9" aluminum print on a stand made from pewter and wood from the tree in the picture. This week, I created a single pedestal using some of my rare and precious wood from the witness tree at Devil's Den in Gettysburg. I was gifted a small quantity of this wood several years ago - it was legally obtained, as I feel I should always make clear - and because it is so special, I'm careful to use it in ways that are the least wasteful.

For this reason, I have chosen to keep the "live" natural edge, and I only removed the loose bark and softened the edges with a wire-wheel brush and a flap-wheel sander before varnishing them, waxing them and applying protective silicone feet underneath. The upper and lower tiers are pinned together with brass rod and epoxy, and the lead-free pewter mount holds the 6" x 9" metal print securely in place.

The Reverse Side of the Print & StandThe pewter mount is symmetrical, so you can have the print facing in either direction. For those who don't know, the 'witness tree' is so called because it is believed to have been standing at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg, a living witness to that pivotal moment in America's history. Because there's such a limited quantity of this wood, and each slice is unique in shape and size, this is the first 2-tiered print stand I have made and I am selling it with this specific metal print of the image titled "The Witness Tree at Devil's Den".

Tealight Vigil PrototypeFeaturing the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg

This aluminum print bears an image of the Pennsylvania state monument at Gettysburg, taken a few years ago during a fast moving summer storm. The sky was as dramatic as any I've seen in all my years of living here, and to my mind it perfectly compliments the iconic monument to the Sons of Pennsylvania, whose blood consecrates this hallowed ground.

The 8" round metal print is held by in place a prototype stand made from solid-surface material, lead-free pewter and brass, and which includes two thick glass tealight holders. I'm happy with the appearance of the prototype, and it is very sturdy with a pleasingly solid tactile quality. Unfortunately, because of the amount of time and material required to make it, I'll be modifying my design moving forward and there will be no others quite like it.

"Witness Tree" - Limited Edition of 8.8" aluminum print on a pedestal made from Devil's Den 'witness tree' wood with pewter.

These are metal prints on slices of wood belonging to the "Witness Tree" at Devil's Den. It is so-called because it is believed to have been standing at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg, a living witness to that pivotal event in our nation's history.

Last week I suffered a computer hard-drive failure. By itself this would be bad, but it was compounded by a mistake I had made when formatting my backups. As a result, nearly 17,000 edited and unedited images were lost, and the cost of recovering them will likely be substantial... if they can be recovered at all.

Several people have suggested starting a Go Fund Me campaign, but times are tough for everyone right now and it would be inappropriate to ask for a hand-out. So, to raise the required money to (try to) recover my files, and to shore up my computer so this never happens again, I am having a series of special promotions. These lovely horses were photographed on a foggy January day at Gettysburg National Military Park. Their riders were sitting nearby, enjoying a snack and surreptitiously watching me taking pictures.

It has been a while since I posted here but we've been busy behind the scenes, working on an entirely new product line. Due to the circumstances surrounding the pandemic, progress has been excruciatingly slow - but steady - and we now project a launch date of March or April 2021. In the elapsed time since we began this, our new product line has already undergone several revisions and improvements, and we have big plans for where we're going with this product line far beyond the initial launch. It has been a while since I posted, but that's not because I have been idle. I've been spending my days working on a new business, a new product line and a new website to compliment this one. There are only so many hours in the day, and at 54 I am not as productive as I was at 34, so unfortunately this blog has been neglected, along with my photography and editing! Today I decided I HAD to edit a photo, if only to keep in practice, and this is the resulting image. Things have been quiet here, but that's because we've been busy working on something new and very different. There are a lot of moving pieces to this new venture, and we want everything right before we make it public. But we're taking the extra time because we know you're going to like it! This is the first picture I have edited in weeks and I was feeling pretty rusty when I started, but I ended up happy with the final result. I've been busy trying to get the website back online, but also devoting much of my time to a new project. It has been a long time coming, but the Mason Dixon Photography website has finally undergone a much-needed overhaul. We've archived our older images and added a ton of new images. Like many of you, Covid-19 has forced us to reevaluate how we do things. Our former business plans had to scrapped and a new path forward had to be plotted. Getting this website updated and back online was just one step, and another important step has been adapting the way we will be processing and fulfilling orders for the foreseeable future. For now, most orders will be drop-shipped to our customers directly from our labs. Each of our labs has taken steps to avoid the spread of Covid-19, and we will do the same - masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, cleaned and sanitized work areas, etc. We want our customers to remain healthy and happy!
